There has been some confusion surrounding the FY2027 tax impact calculator and the effects of upcoming debt. In response, we are fully revising the calculator to incorporate all known and potential debt impacts.
As part of this update, the baseline tax rate used in the calculator will be adjusted from $17.30 (FY2026 valuation) to approximately $17.18 per $1,000, which slightly reduces the stated projected impact for FY2027.
An updated infographic will also be released to clearly illustrate the remaining tax impact associated with the Berkley Community School project, Bristol-Plymouth Regional Technical School and all associated Town debt as outlined here.
It’s important to note that projecting future tax rates can be challenging. As property valuations increase, the tax rate is typically driven down. This means that the further out projections go, the less precise the rate becomes. Tax rates are typically set in November.
The actual cost of approved projects to the taxpayer remains relatively consistent over time. Individual tax bills may vary based on changes in property assessments.
